Stocking Rate vs. Carrying Capacity
Carrying capacity is the maximum number of animal units a land area can sustain given available forage at a selected utilization rate. Stocking rate is the number actually placed on that land. Aligning stocking rate with carrying capacity is essential for maintaining rangeland health, forage productivity, and long-term ecological and economic sustainability.
